Skechers is a global leader in the lifestyle footwear industry. It provides more than 2,000 styles to meet the need of male and female consumers across every age and demographic. Prior to Sun Wireless becoming involved two years ago, they had had some experience with microwave radio technology but needed to upgrade the existing systems. Two 100 Mbps, unlicensed systems were installed. One link was used to connect two buildings at the Manhattan Beach headquarters location. The other was deployed in Ontario, California to provide data connectivity between two of their massive warehouses (each houses several million pairs of shoes). This solution provided excellent results until other unlicensed radios began to produce unacceptable interference problems. Frequencies were altered; antenna polarities were changed; antenna sizes were increased. None of these modifications could overcome the problems for longer than a few days.

The solution was to move into licensed radios. Because of the immediate need to overcome the interference problems, an unlicensed, 45 Mbps radio, which can deal with these situations, was deployed. Within a few weeks, a 23 GHz licensed radio providing 100 Mbps of bandwidth was also installed. This configuration was employed both in Manhattan Beach and Ontario. The equipment has been operating over a year with no equipment or interference problems. The customer also appreciates that the bandwidth on the licensed radio can be field upgraded to 800 Mbps; this secures the investment and provides for major expansion in the future.
